Peter, your viewpoint is very sound. Of course users should understand what they are using and be aware of possible perils. Apple also explains information about security risks and you can find it online http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5642 and check for security updates. It’s not Apple’s problem if one simply doesn’t want to read it or care about it at all thinking Apple owes someone 100% security. Maybe some others think Apple is a huge company and so they sould definitely care to design everything including security as it ought to be according to today's standards and thus users don’t need to really care about security on their side. But all Apple can do is to suggest relevant security instruments which would make it secure and would be more or less tolerable to an average user, since this is a product for masses and not necessarily security professionals.

It is the typical "shoot the messenger" behavior when things go wrong for the individual.
Why did you buy fancy apple stuff in the first place when you want to keep your information private?
How can you think that everything wil be OK even if you are knowingly using services where you are paying with your data?
How can you think nothing will happen if you are completely sloppy with your data spreading it all over the planet?

It is definitely not the fault of security researchers who publish the problems the industry has caused, not completely independent of the users' choice.

Think about it.
